What is an at-fault or partially at-fault accident?

It means you are at fault or partially at fault for a car accident as a result of your care and control of the vehicle. This includes damages to other vehicles and property, injuries caused to other passenger, drivers or pedestrians, as well as damages to your own vehicle.

You can be anywhere from 0% to 100% at fault in an accident. After an accident, the insurance company claims adjuster(s) determines the degree of fault based on the circumstances surrounding the accident and specific provincial fault-determination regulations.

There is no one mathematical formula used to calculate the percentages of fault. Any driver who is more than 0% at fault will have an "at-fault" accident on his or her insurance record.
